This weekend club futbol takes another break for international fixtures. Eight players from our squad were called to represent their countries for friendly matches and training camps (Renato Ibarra was called up but will not join the Ecuador squad after picking up a knock).
One of the youngest players on México’s squad, Edson Álvarez keeps collecting caps and minutes with El Tri. Álvarez represented México in the 2018 World Cup and heads into this international break with 21 caps in official matches and 1 goal scored. For our club, he’s racked up 84 appearances and 2 goals.

Henry Martín returns to El Tri under Ricardo Ferretti’s interim reign, marking his third call up to the national team and looking for his first cap. With Club América, Martín has 35 appearances and 12 goals to his name. México have two friendly matches set for this break:

Uribe earns another call up to the Colombian National Team after he was with the club for the 2018 World Cup and in the most recent international break. He has 5 caps with Los Cafetaleros. With Club América, he has 46 appearances and has scored 16 goals.
As former Mexican National Team manager Juan Carlos Osorio takes over the Paraguay squad, Ceci and Bruno have been called up for his first training camp in charge of La Albirroja. Cecilio has 6 caps with Paraguay, and has made 62 appearances for Club América with 19 goals scored. Bruno joined Paraguay for both the 2015 Copa América (in Chile) and for the recent World Cup Qualification rounds where he scored his first international goal. For Club América, he has 100 appearances and 13 goals.
Vargas and León were called up once again to join the México Sub 20 squad for a training camp at the CAR (the Mexican National Team’s training grounds). The Sub 20 squad will soon select 20 players to travel to the United States to play in the 2018 CONCACAF Sub 20 Championship from November 1st to November 21st. That squad will be selected on October 27th.

Despite being one of the more lackluster offensive teams in Liga MX, Club América managed to make their way to the semifinal of the 2017 Apertura tournament on the back of their phenomenal defense – which allowed just 22 goals all season including the liguilla. As a result of their lackluster offensive performance, it was expected that Miguel Herrera and company would try and sign some more offensive minded players. This task was made significantly more challenging when rumors began swirling around online that las Águilas were going to be financially handicapped headed into the draft. According to various different sources, Club América would only have 7 million USD to spend over the course of the draft.

As the draft got underway, it seemed like every other team except Club América was making significant roster moves. Cross-city rivals Cruz Azul, after releasing club legend Chaco Giménez a day before the draft, made a flurry of signings early on in the draft and by 7:00 PM had ended their participation. Several other teams, including Atlas, made significant roster moves before las Águilas announced any roster changes of their own. The lack of any activity early on in the draft only seemed to serve as confirmation that Club América was financially handicapped in the draft.

Eventually, as the draft wore on, las Águilas announced their first roster change of the draft. Instead of signing a new attacking player, however, the sale of defender Miguel Samudio to Queretaro was announced by the club. The move was a rather questionable one considering that Samudio had been an important part of very solid Águila defense over the past tournament. A short while after the sale of Samudio was announced, it was reported that Pablo Aguilar had been transferred to Tijuana. Pablo Aguilar’s transfer to Tijuana came as a complete shock to fans and pundits alike. Aguilar had been the heart and sole of the team since his arrival a few years ago.
Initially the transfer of Pablo Aguilar was just reported as a regular sale. However, a few minutes after the initial report off Aguilar’s transfer a new twist was added to the tale. As it turned out, Aguilar wasn’t sold to Xolos. Instead, he was traded for Mexican striker Henry Martín, Argentine central defender Victor Emanuel Aguilera, and American attacking midfielder Joe Corona. Martín and Aguilera will be joining Club América on permanent deals. Corona will be a loan with the option to buy in the future. The highly controversial transfer reunites Miguel Herrera with two of his favorite players from his time as the head coach of Tijuana as well as allows las Águilas to sign one of Mexico’s brightest young strikers on the cheap.

It remains to be seen how these players will integrate into Club América or how the loss of Samudio and Aguilar will affect the team, but by the looks of it Miguel Herrera and company pulled off a successful draft.Liga MX News Club América: Who is the first renewed member of the Águilas for the 2022 Apertura? Although the tournament is still not over and the Liguilla is approaching, Club América has already secured a contract renewal.
After the Club América squad recovered from the bad start of the tournament, there were players who stood out and gave a better face to the Azulcrema team to even qualify among the first four places in Liga MX. It is true that the main responsible is Fernando Ortíz, but the great performance of some players who were previously doubted and today are undisputed starters cannot be overlooked.

Various media sources reported that Luis Fuentes, the Águilas' full-back defender, is the first player to be renewed by the Coapa team without having to sit down to negotiate. This is because he fulfilled the minutes played clause in his contract, so he now has another year assured to wear the Azulcrema jersey. Beyond the time on the field, it is a fact that Fuentes was one of the best players América had during the regular phase.

Since Ortíz's team started to get three points, everything seems to be going well for the Azulcrema team. Things like the automatic renewal of Luis Fuentes' contract have motivated the group to work properly towards the quarterfinals. The great challenge now will be to maintain a good tone for the next semester, although the most important thing will be how this competition ends.
Club América tied at the Estadio Azteca during the latest edition of the Clasico Joven, obtaining a point that allowed them to secure a direct pass to the Liguilla for the Clausura 2022, where they will try to overcome the quarterfinals, an instance where they have been stuck in recent tournaments.
However, one of the problems with avoiding the playoffs is that the competitive rhythm could be compromised due to the week of rest they have during the reclassification rounds. For this reason, the Coapa board of directors decided to organize a friendly match.

Different sources have confirmed that the Águilas' opponent will be Atlante, a match that will be played behind closed doors next Thursday. Although it is important to remember that the Potros de Hierro are competing in the Liguilla of the Liga de Expansión MX, and on Wednesday they will face Atlético Morelia in the Semifinals, so only the players who do not see activity tomorrow will be the ones practicing with América.
