Few roads are as well known as Route 66. Often known as “The Mother Road” or “Main Street of America”, Route 66 was established in 1926 as the first true interstate highwayand soon became a busy route from Chicago to Los Angeles during the Great Depression as people travelled west in the hope of prosperity in California. As you will learn during your trip, these migrants often set up home along the route with cafes, gas stations and other businesses suited to the weary traveller.
Covering almost 2500 miles and eight US states, driving Route 66 is a road trip holiday like no other: it isn’t as much about reaching the destination, it is more about the journey itself. You’ll drive through ghost towns, see abandoned motels, gas stations, diners, derelict neon signs and meet some real characters along the way!
